French ex-president calls dissolving parliament "risky move"
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has said that the dissolution of the National Assembly by incumbent head of state Emmanuel Macron is a risky step for the country, TASS reports.
"The dissolution of the National Assembly is a major risk for both the country and the president," he said in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper.
According to him, "such a move could plunge the already fractured republic into chaos, from which it would be very difficult for it to get out." "The president has three years left in power, and I would prefer that he use them to fulfill the wishes of the French," Sarkozy said.
The former president said he was not surprised by the scale of the vote in the European Parliament elections in favor of the right-wing Rassemblement Nationale and the left-wing Unsubordinate France party. "It must be recognized that midterm elections are always difficult for the ruling party," he remarked.
