French intelligence warns of rising intrusions at defence facilities

The number of illegal intrusions by individuals and drones into France’s defence enterprises rose by 24% in 2025, according to the country’s Directorate of Defence Security (DRSD). A year earlier, the increase stood at 18%, BFMTV has reported.

According to the counterintelligence agency’s report, the targets included industrial sites and laboratories within the defence sector. The agency stated that some intrusions resulted in the theft of computer equipment, machinery, and strategic raw materials used for military production. Defence facilities have also faced arson attacks on energy infrastructure and acts of vandalism.

In addition, intelligence officials noted a growing number of espionage incidents involving photo and video surveillance of restricted facilities. The agency also reported a sharp rise in drone flyovers toward the end of 2025.

As DRSD noted, it is difficult to determine exactly who is behind these actions. Experts link the incidents to hybrid warfare allegedly involving Russia, as well as far-left groups protesting against defence companies over the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
