The French Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian Ambassador to Paris Alexei Meshkov, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports citing the ministry.
According to the ministry, this action was taken in response to the alleged misuse of diplomatic channels by Russia to manipulate information and intimidate.
The ministry also said that Moscow was allegedly engaged in "shifting responsibility in an attempt to accuse the West of being a threat," and accused Russia of "destabilising European countries, in particular through hybrid actions and cyberattacks."
The French Foreign Ministry also added that the decision was a response to the summoning of the French ambassador to Moscow, Pierre Levy, to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
