French minister says support for Ukraine will outlast Macron

France will continue supporting Ukraine after Emmanuel Macron’s presidential term ends, France’s Minister Delegate for Europe Benjamin Haddad said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

Haddad said the overwhelming majority of French people support Ukraine and have followed developments in the country for more than four years. He added that French citizens sometimes call on the government to do more to support Kyiv.

“I think in the vast majority of Europe it is the same, so I am confident that this friendship with Ukraine and the support for Ukraine will continue,” Haddad said.

His remarks came as France’s political future beyond Macron’s presidency has become a subject of discussion, with the president due to leave office after completing his second term.

Haddad argued that public support for Ukraine in France provides a basis for the continuation of the country’s backing for Kyiv beyond the current presidency.
