France signs contract to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced new military aid for Ukraine following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the two sides signing a contract for the supply of radars.

Macron said France will provide Ukraine with radars and interceptor missiles to strengthen its air defence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

In his words, the main topics of his meeting with Zelenskyy were Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and preparations for the winter.

“Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure threaten to deprive millions of families of heating and electricity. France will stand by Ukraine this winter, and the G7 countries in the energy sector will also be mobilised to support it,” Macron noted.

The French president claimed that Paris would further continue to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence. The two sides have signed a contract for the supply of radars. Ukraine will also receive interceptor missiles.

Macron also discussed support for Ukraine with US President Donald Trump. The talks also focused on the possibility of an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, as well as a moratorium in the Black Sea. According to Macron, France supports both initiatives.
