French president, Greek PM visit airbase in Cyprus
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a joint visit to the Andreas Papandreou airbase, Radio Cyprus reports.
The leaders discussed security and defence cooperation.
Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letimbiotis stated that Christodoulides is in constant coordination with EU member states and regional countries, including France, Greece, and Italy, to ensure stability and protection of Cypriot territory.
According to French media, Macron emphasised the importance of maritime security in the Eastern Mediterranean, while Mitsotakis confirmed that the visit underscores Greece’s defence support for Cyprus amid rising Middle East tensions.
On social media, the Greek Prime Minister highlighted that Greece acted swiftly to protect the Greek community in Cyprus when its safety was threatened by the regional conflict.
