FT: NATO needs contingency plan for Greenland scenario

NATO needs a contingency plan in case US President Donald Trump decides to pursue Washington's control over Greenland, the Financial Times (FT) reports, citing a diplomat close to the alliance.

The diplomat said whether it was random or planned, they can’t keep hoping that the issue will just go away.

“We need an actual plan," he told the newspaper.

According to the official, the US president's statements regarding control of the Danish island do not appear to be part of a coherent American strategy.

The newspaper added that European leaders largely view Trump's comments as a tactical manoeuvre aimed at making allies more accommodating during negotiations.
