FT: US may abandon plan to deploy Tomahawk missiles in Germany

03 May 2026 11:38

The US administration is planning to cancel its decision to deploy long-range strike systems in Germany, including a battalion equipped with Tomahawk missiles, according to the Financial Times citing a Pentagon source.

Christian Mölling, director of the Berlin-based think tank Edina, said reducing the US military presence in Germany would be “less of a problem” than a potential cancellation.

He noted that NATO is lagging behind in long-range missiles, adding that such steps raise doubts about US commitment to defending its NATO allies.

The United States and Germany had announced plans to deploy Tomahawk and other long-range systems in July 2025 under the administration of Joe Biden, with implementation scheduled through 2027.
