Fuel prices soar to record levels in Slovakia

Petrol and diesel prices in Slovakia have climbed to historic highs, with prices increasing for the fifth consecutive week, the country’s Statistical Office said.

The average price of petrol rose to €1.853 per litre, while diesel reached €1.95 per liter. Overall, petrol prices have increased by 21.1%, while diesel prices have surged by 33.7%.

The sharp rise in fuel prices has prompted calls for government and EU action. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has proposed limiting fuel retailers’ profit margins and urged the European Union to convene an emergency summit to address the situation.

The latest figures highlight growing pressure on households and businesses from rising fuel costs, with Slovakia joining other European countries facing increased energy and transportation expenses.
