Gap between opposition and Orbán’s party reaches record level
Hungary’s main opposition party, Tisza Party, has significantly increased its lead over the governing Fidesz, according to a new nationwide opinion poll that points to a growing shift in voter preferences.
A survey conducted by 21 Kutatóközpont for 24.hu between March 23 and 28 found that among committed voters, Tisza leads Fidesz by 19 percentage points, standing at 56% to 37%, Caliber.Az reports per Hungarian media.
Among respondents who have already chosen a party, the gap is 16 percentage points in favour of Tisza.
The findings indicate that Tisza’s momentum has been driven largely by gains in support rather than a sharp drop in backing for Fidesz. The opposition party increased its share among party-leaning respondents from 48% in January to 54% in the latest survey.
The poll, based on a sample of 1,500 respondents using a hybrid online and telephone methodology, was weighted to reflect national demographic data and carries an estimated margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points.
Smaller political parties remain well below major contenders. Mi Hazánk is close to the parliamentary threshold, while the Democratic Coalition and the Two-Tailed Dog Party each register around 1% support.
The results suggest an increasingly competitive political landscape in Hungary, with the gap between the leading opposition and the ruling party widening to its highest level recorded by the research centre.
