Gas prices in Uzbekistan 11 times lower than global average
Natural gas in Uzbekistan remains one of the most affordable energy sources for households both in the region and globally, according to a report by the analytical portal Energyprom.
As of April 2026, the average household gas price stood at just $0.008 per kWh—around 11 times lower than the global average of $0.086 per kWh recorded in September 2025.
In terms of affordability, Uzbekistan ranks among the world leaders: only Algeria offers cheaper gas at $0.003 per kWh. For comparison, prices stand at $0.012 in Russia, $0.016 in Azerbaijan, and $0.025 in Kyrgyzstan. In the United States and India, the figure reaches $0.048, while China records $0.051. In developed economies, prices are significantly higher, reaching $0.233 in Sweden and $0.219 in Brazil.
Low gas prices have contributed to widespread domestic consumption. In 2024, Uzbekistan ranked among the world’s top 20 countries in per capita gas consumption, placing 14th, with each resident consuming 15,014 kWh annually.
Qatar topped the ranking with more than 152,000 kWh per capita, followed by Trinidad and Tobago (93,300 kWh) and the United Arab Emirates (64,700 kWh). Among Uzbekistan’s regional neighbours, higher consumption levels were recorded in Turkmenistan, Russia, and Belarus.
At the same time, Uzbekistan surpassed many European countries, including Germany, Italy, and Luxembourg, underscoring the significant role of natural gas in the country’s energy balance.
