George Clooney family forced to flee as France wildfires intensify

George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, have evacuated their home in southern France as fast-moving wildfires spread across parts of the country, People magazine reported, citing a representative for the actor.

The couple and their 9-year-old twins left their property in Brignoles, in France's Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, as fires threatened parts of the Mediterranean coast, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

Before departing, they sent a letter to Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond expressing support for the local community.

"Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment," the letter began.

"As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and i are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole," the letter continued. "We love Brignoles and our friends who live there."

The representative confirmed the evacuation to People. Fox News said it had contacted Clooney's representatives for further comment on the family's safety and the condition of the property.

The evacuation comes as wildfires continue to burn across southern Europe amid extreme heat, drought and strong winds.

French authorities have been battling multiple blazes, including a separate wildfire in southwestern France that remained uncontained on Wednesday and had grown to roughly four times the size of Paris. Around 3,000 people were evacuated from the Brignoles area as fires threatened communities in Provence.

Across France and Spain, more than 300,000 residents and tourists have been forced to evacuate because of the fires. In France's Gironde region, where temperatures approached 40 degrees Celsius (104°F), authorities ordered the evacuation of about 220,000 people at the peak of the country's largest wildfire, although many have since been allowed to return. Tens of thousands remain displaced.

In a 2025 interview with Esquire, Clooney said he and Amal had chosen to raise their children on a farm in France to provide a quieter life away from Hollywood and media attention.
