Georgia aims for global excellence in higher education, says Prime Minister
Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, has emphasized the importance of providing students in the country with high-quality education.
“Students should have the choice to enroll in either private or public universities. Our objective is to equalize the quality of degrees,” he said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
“At present, equality in educational standards is not guaranteed. Our priority is not internal competition, but competition on the international stage, so that a Georgian student in Georgia can receive a top-tier education,” Kobakhidze stated.
The Prime Minister also clarified that the reform does not entail reducing student numbers in public universities. Parliament has already approved the first package of the higher education reform, which includes shortening the duration of university programs and granting the government the authority to set enrollment quotas for public institutions.
Kobakhidze stressed that these measures are designed to raise the overall standard of Georgian higher education, ensuring that graduates are competitive in the global academic and professional arena.
