Georgia-Baku cargo train hit by fire at Azerbaijan's Shamkir station
A fire broke out aboard a freight train traveling from Georgia to Baku at Shamkir railway station on August 14, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) has said.
The blaze erupted in the 15th carriage of the 35-car train and was caused by smoldering sulfur powder, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Fire engines and personnel from the State Fire Protection Service of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations were dispatched to the scene.
Emergency crews quickly brought the fire under control and took measures to protect the remaining carriages from the flames, preventing the fire from spreading along the train.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire and establish the full extent of any damage.
