German chancellor calls emergency meeting over energy supply crisis
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to convene the National Security Council in the coming days to discuss the country’s energy and fuel supply situation.
The meeting will focus on ensuring stable supplies of key fuels, including diesel, gasoline, and aviation kerosene, Caliber.Az reports, citing German media.
Merz said the situation was tense, but supplies were secured. “If conditions worsen, we are prepared to act,” he added.
The National Security Council, established last year, is designed for rapid crisis response and includes representatives of the government and security agencies.
Earlier, Economy Minister Katherina Reiche said measures are being prepared in case of a kerosene shortage and urged the public to avoid panic.
She added that authorities are also holding consultations with airports, airlines, and fuel suppliers to coordinate their response.
