German chancellor calls for stability following Iran-Israel ceasefire efforts
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed the American President’s call for a sequenced ceasefire between Iran and Israel, following the recent US military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
In a statement posted on X, Merz described the ceasefire initiative as a positive development that could enhance security in both the Middle East and the wider world, Caliber.

He urged both Iran and Israel to respect the proposed ceasefire, and expressed appreciation to Qatar and other regional states for their restraint during the "dramatic events" of recent days.
Merz also indicated that discussions with American and European partners on how to further stabilise the situation would take place on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague later today, on June 24.
