German chancellor gives symbolic birthday gift to Trump at G7 summit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz presented a symbolic gift to US President Donald Trump on the occasion of his birthday, which was marked on June 14.

The gift was handed over during the G7 summit in France.

Photos published online show Merz presenting Trump with a German national football team jersey featuring his surname and the number 47, referring to Trump as the 47th president of the United States.

“Happy belated 80th birthday, President Donald J. Trump. After all, we're on the same team,” Merz wrote in the caption.
