Merz rejects pessimism over economy, says “good years ahead”
02 June 2026 14:51
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that his country will face “very good years ahead” despite current economic difficulties.
Speaking at the East German Economic Forum, he said there is no reason for pessimism or for portraying Germany’s future in dark colours, Caliber.Az reports, citing German media.
“The best times for our country are not behind us. Very good years lie ahead — in eastern Germany, western Germany, Germany as a whole and in Europe — if we now work together rather than against one another,” he noted.
Merz also called for setting aside “party-political games” for the sake of the country’s future.
