German far-right party advocates for exit from EU in new election programme
The right-wing "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) party has called for the country's withdrawal from the EU in its election programme.
"We consider it necessary for Germany to leave the EU and establish a new European community," authors of the programme said, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The authors of the program clarify that they aim to replace the EU with a "group of economic interests."
They believe a referendum should be held on "adapting the European provisions of the Basic Law." For this purpose, the party aims to initiate a referendum to vote on amending several "European" articles in the constitution.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) took a similar stance in the 2021 federal election campaign, but later backtracked. The transition to a new community should be discussed in negotiations with former EU partners, as well as with new partners from the future community, the document states. The AfD does not stop there and calls for leaving the eurozone.
While this may create some difficulties, the authors of the programme believe they would be significantly smaller than the long-term costs associated with maintaining the euro system.
According to the latest survey by the Forsa Institute for Social Research and Statistical Analysis, only 18 per cent of voters are ready to support the "Alternative for Germany" party in the elections, while the Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc is backed by 32 per cent.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) would receive 15 per cent of the votes, the Greens would get 12 per cent, while both the Left Party and the "Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice" would secure 4 per cent each.
