German foreign minister urges Iran to reopen Strait of Hormuz

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul demanded the unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to ensure safe navigation during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. 

Writing on X, he also urged Iran to engage in constructive talks with the United States and neighbouring countries to end the conflict, Caliber.Az reports.

In a call with @araghchi I urged Iran to finally engage constructively in negotiations with regional neighbours & USA in order to bring the conflict to an end. The Strait of Hormuz needs to be opened unconditionally ensuring free and safe navigation for all.

Berlin considers the reopening of the strategic waterway a key condition for stabilising the situation in the region.

“In a call with Araghchi, I urged Iran to finally engage constructively in negotiations with regional neighbours & USA in order to bring the conflict to an end. The Strait of Hormuz needs to be opened unconditionally ensuring free and safe navigation for all,” Wadephul wrote.
