German foreign policy expert calls US-Iran agreement “disaster”
Foreign policy expert from Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the party of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Roderich Kiesewetter, has sharply criticised the peace agreement between Iran and the United States.
Kiesewetter described the deal as a “disaster,” saying it "indirectly props up" Russian President Vladimir Putin's war machine and "leaves the door wide open for Iran to develop a nuclear bomb," Caliber.Az reports, citing DW.
“This is a disaster for the people of Iran,” he said. In this context, the CDU representative also criticised US President Donald Trump.
“As soon as a brutal regime makes threats, he caves in and sacrifices long-term security interests for a quick PR win,” Kiesewetter stated.
Chancellor Merz, however, expressed support for the deal, highlighting its potential economic advantages.
"The agreement has the potential to pave the way towards a reinvigorated global economy and a more secure Middle East," Merz said in a statement.
