German Hilton hotel halts guest stays after EU sanctions freeze accounts

14 August 2026 10:21

The Hilton Gravenbruch Hotel in Neu-Isenburg, near Frankfurt, Germany, has temporarily stopped accepting guests after EU sanctions targeting an Iranian businessman linked to Iran's Supreme Leader affected companies associated with the hotel's ownership.

The sanctions against Ali Ansari, described as a key financier of Iran's Supreme Leader, resulted in the freezing of accounts linked to companies connected with the hotel, according to the information provided to German media.

The financial restrictions have left the hotel unable to pay suppliers and maintain some of its usual services. Around 40 guests who were still staying at the hotel have been offered accommodation at other hotels where necessary.

The situation has also raised concerns among about 140 employees, who fear losing their jobs.

Hotel management said the property was not permanently closing and was expected to resume operations once a new operator takes over and the financial issues are resolved.
