German interior minister: No surge in migration amid Iran war
18 April 2026 14:20
Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has said that the US–Israeli operation against Iran has not led to an increase in the number of refugees heading to Europe, DW reports.
He noted that the government is closely monitoring migration flows from Iran and Lebanon.
"At present, we are seeing high levels of internal migration in both countries, but we are not yet detecting pressure on the Turkish border. That would be the first indicator of a further migration movement towards Europe," Dobrindt said.
He added that the coming weeks will be crucial in determining how the situation develops, particularly in the Middle East, and that it is still too early to predict migration trends.
