German police detain two suspected foreign agents
Police in Germany have arrested two men suspected of acting as foreign agents in Bavaria after they were found in possession of forged identity documents and surveillance equipment.
The suspects — a 43-year-old Ukrainian and a 45-year-old Latvian — were detained on April 12 during a routine traffic stop on the A6 motorway near Neuendettelsau, Caliber.Az reports via German media.
Authorities said the men are accused of espionage activities linked to sabotage purposes. According to investigators, they were operating on behalf of an unspecified organisation or entity based outside Germany.
A search of their vehicle uncovered a range of suspicious items, including forged identity documents, cameras, a drone, GPS trackers, radios, several mobile phones and SIM cards.
The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office said investigations are ongoing.
