German politician vows to go bald if she loses election
Nicole Büttner, Secretary General of Germany’s Free Democratic Party (FDP), who was elected to the post in May 2025, has said she will shave her head if the party fails to win a seat in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament (Landtag) in the upcoming election.
“I love my hair. But if we do not make it into the Landtag, I will shave my head completely. Radically,” Caliber.Az quotes her as saying, citing German media.
She expressed confidence that this would not be necessary, arguing that the party would clear the required five-per-cent threshold. The election is scheduled for 8 March 2026.
According to opinion polls conducted in October, the FDP’s rating in Baden-Württemberg stands at 5%. The party of Sahra Wagenknecht polls lower, at three per cent. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leads in the region with a projected 26 per cent, followed by Alternative for Germany (AfD) on 21 per cent, with the Greens in third place on 20 per cent.
