Germany approves sale of over 10 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine
The German government has approved the sale of 18 RCH-155 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian authorities asked to sell these howitzers two months ago, according to Welt am Sonntag.
According to the German media, the contract on the supply of 18 self-propelled howitzers with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann company cost 216 million euros ($216.3 million) for Ukraine.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk has recently confirmed that Berlin had approved the sale of the RCH-155 howitzers.
“This will be a great contribution to enhancing the effectiveness of the Ukrainian military. I hope that the federal government will continue following this path consistently,” the diplomat said.
The RCH-155 howitzers will be supplied in 2025, according to Welt am Sonntag.
A howitzer has an L52 cannon with a firing range of up to 54 kilometres with high-precision V-LAP projectiles at a speed of nine rounds per minute. The speed of the RCH-155 howitzer is up to 100 km/h.
