Germany backs Eurofighter jet delivery to Türkiye as “natural choice”
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that sending Eurofighter jets to Türkiye is a natural decision.
He made the remarks in an interview with NTV following a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara.
“We recognise Türkiye as a reliable NATO ally and want to strengthen our shared defence alliance together. Sending Eurofighter jets to Türkiye is completely natural for us. They will be used to protect the alliance. As a government, we view this delivery positively,” Wadephul said.
The minister noted that negotiations between the companies and Türkiye are ongoing: “We must defend the alliance together. At present, there is aggression from Russia. From this perspective, we view this delivery positively.”
Commenting on the signing process and delivery of the fighters, Wadephul said: “I think it will happen soon. I believe it could take place this year. The Eurofighter is a model that has been in production for a long time, and I have heard that capacities are being expanded. Therefore, deliveries to Türkiye will begin shortly. However, these decisions will be made by the companies. They can provide this information. First, we need a signed agreement. Work on that is already underway.”
