Germany calls on Israel to facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza

Germany on September 28 urged Israel to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, where the war has caused widespread destruction.

“Our call and our appeal is to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, which, incidentally, is an obligation of an occupying power,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Josef Hinterseher told reporters in Berlin.

He noted that the humanitarian situation in Gaza had shown some improvement, but stressed that major challenges remained unresolved.

“It remains true that, in general, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has improved slightly, but -- as has been the case with the implementation of the Gaza Plan -- we have not yet reached the stages that address important issues such as reconstruction,” Hinterseher added.

The German official also called on Israel to put German army cargo scanners at the Eretz border crossing into operation, saying they could help facilitate the entry of dual-use goods required to rebuild homes in Gaza before winter.

“We expect these scanners to be used so that dual-use goods can be utilised for reconstruction and humanitarian aid,” Hinterseher said.

According to a satellite assessment conducted by the UN Satellite Centre (UNOSAT), more than 201,000 buildings, representing 82% of all structures in the Gaza Strip, had sustained damage as of June 16, 2026.
