Germany confirms prior notification of Israel’s strikes on Iran
Germany was informed in advance about Israel’s military strikes on Iran, a German government spokesperson told Associated Press on February 28, adding that the German government is closely monitoring developments and remains in close consultation with its European partners.
A meeting of Germany’s crisis group is scheduled for noon today to discuss the situation in Iran. The day before, Chancellor Friedrich Merz held consultations with the relevant ministers, and additional talks are planned for Saturday.
Germany has called on its citizens currently in Iran, Israel, and other countries in the region to register in the official system for citizens abroad. They have also been advised to follow the security instructions issued by local authorities.
The German Foreign Ministry emphasised that it maintains “close and continuous” contact with its embassies in Iran and Israel, as well as with other diplomatic missions across the region.
