Germany gets first LNG batch from US
04 January 2023 10:27
The US tanker "Maria Energy", loaded with liquefied natural gas (LNG), has been moored at the newly-built floating LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on January 3, 2023, according to Deutsche Welle.
The shipment is a part of a wide-reaching effort to help Germany replace energy supplies it previously received from Russia.
The liquefied gas will first be transferred to a special vessel, the Höegh Esperanza. It is then scheduled to be converted into gaseous form and then injected into the German gas grid.
German authorities are preparing to open four more floating terminals to facilitate the import of LNG.
Imports of LNG from North, West Africa and the Middle East to Germany are also expected in the near future.
