Germany grants Muslim workers holidays for Ramadan and Eid al-Adha

Authorities in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein have reached an agreement with the Association of Islamic Cultural Centres of Northern Germany to allow Muslim employees to take time off for two religious holidays—the first day of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram), Spiegel reports.

This does not grant additional statutory holidays but provides workers the opportunity to use existing leave specifically on these dates.

The agreement aims to respect religious traditions and ensure equal conditions for followers of different faiths.

The measure will come into effect once administrative procedures are completed.
