German official slams Scholz's refusal to discuss easing sanctions on Russia
Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer criticized the complete denial by Germany and other European countries of the easing of sanctions against Russia.
Kretschmer called for discussions in Germany on easing anti-Russian sanctions, Caliber.Az reports, citing German media.
“A permanent discussion about which of these sanctions perhaps have a more detrimental effect on us than on Russia should be possible. But this is not happening,” he said.
To recall, at a summit in Paris on March 27, European leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, unanimously agreed that it is not the right time to lift sanctions against Russia. The leaders emphasized maintaining economic pressure until peace is firmly established in Ukraine. Chancellor Scholz highlighted the necessity of continuing sanctions to support Ukraine and deter further aggression.
