Germany rules out joining war with Iran, urges de-escalation
On March 4, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius told the Bundestag (parliament) that Germany will not participate in a war with Iran and voiced concern over the absence of a clear “exit strategy” from the conflict, DW reports.
“Germany is not a party to the conflict. We will do everything possible to help de-escalate and prevent further spread of violence,” Pistorius said, adding that he maintains contacts with colleagues in Israel, the United States, and the European Union.
The minister also stressed the importance of planning for the post-conflict period: “History teaches us that starting a war is easier than ending it. This means a clear exit strategy is needed — and I do not see one at the moment. It is unrealistic to think that conflicts in the region can be resolved solely through military force or unilaterally.”
