Germany's exports hit record €139.3 billion in June despite narrower trade surplus
Germany's exports reached a record €139.3 billion in June, the highest monthly level since official records began, according to figures released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
The previous record of €139.1 billion was set in September 2022.
Exports rose 0.9% from May and were up 6.6% compared with June 2025. Imports increased at a faster pace, climbing 4.4% month-on-month and 8.4% year-on-year to €123.9 billion, their highest level since November 2022.
The stronger growth in imports narrowed Germany's trade surplus to €15.4 billion in June from €19.3 billion a month earlier. For the first six months of 2026, the surplus stood at €105 billion, broadly in line with the same period last year.
Trade with European Union countries remained robust, with exports rising 1.3% to €79.3 billion and imports increasing 7.4% to €63.6 billion. Trade with non-EU countries was almost evenly balanced, as exports totalled €60.0 billion and imports €60.3 billion.
The United States remained Germany's largest export market, although shipments fell 14.2% from May to €12.1 billion. Exports to China edged down 0.3% to €6.2 billion, while exports to the United Kingdom rose 7.7% to €7.3 billion.
On the import side, purchases from China increased 9.1% to €16.5 billion. Imports from the United States declined 9.6% to €8.7 billion, while imports from the United Kingdom fell 16.7% to €3.2 billion.
