Germany’s Oktoberfest reopens after 2-year hiatus
The famous German beer festival Oktoberfest, which was cancelled for two subsequent years due to the coronavirus pandemic, opened in Munich on September 17, 2022.
The festival is said to run until October 3 with no anti-covid restrictions, according to the German news service DPA.
The head of Bavaria City, where the festival takes place, Markus Soder announced a possible increase in the number of coronavirus infections during the holiday, nevertheless, he does expect an excessive burden on hospitals.
For his part, German Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach urged festival participants to be careful so as not to be infected with the virus.
“I don’t want to spoil everyone’s mood, but when visiting Oktoberfest, you need to be careful. I do not advise people with chronic diseases to go there,” he stressed.
