Germany set to facilitate crucial talks among global leaders on Ukraine support

25 September 2024 12:22

The Federal Republic of Germany intends to convene a meeting among French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and US President Joe Biden during Biden's visit to Germany in October.

The discussions among Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Biden, Macron, and Starmer are expected to primarily focus on support for Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via a German newspaper.

Additionally, the publication noted that Biden is scheduled to visit the Ramstein military base during his time in Germany.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed Biden's travel plans, indicating he would visit Germany and Angola from October 10 to 15.

Biden is set to arrive in Berlin on October 10, with discussions with German government officials planned for October 11.

Although Biden has previously visited Germany as president — attending the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Elmau in 2022 and making a refuelling stop at Ramstein — this will mark his first official working or state visit to the country during his presidency.

As the US presidential election approaches on November 5, Biden, who was initially expected to run as the Democratic candidate, has opted to withdraw following a disappointing performance in a June debate against former President Donald Trump. He has since endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who has been officially nominated as the Democratic candidate by party delegates at their convention in Chicago.
