Germany to boost Bundeswehr drone defence capabilities
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has announced plans for significant investment in the Bundeswehr’s systems for countering drones.
During a visit to military units in Lower Saxony, Pistorius also said that all branches of the armed forces will have dedicated anti-drone units starting in July, Caliber.Az reports via German media.
“We are launching an action plan on drones these days,” Pistorius said
The plan includes a series of measures that will now be implemented. By the end of the decade, around €16 billion is expected to be invested in drone defence, the defence minister noted.
“We are procuring drones that conduct reconnaissance, we are procuring drones that have an effect, as well as drones that can defend against attacking drones – in other words, the full spectrum,” Pistorius said.
He added that the use of these systems in the military would be approached “very strategically and in a targeted way.”
The minister stressed that the priority is to rapidly procure the necessary equipment and conduct training exercises with troops.
