Germany to hand over almost 200,000 shells to Ukraine in 2024
Germany plans to hand over 200,000 shells to the Defense Forces of Ukraine in 2024.
Currently, the German industry is increasing the production of ammunition, Inspector General of the German Armed Forces, Carsten Breuer has said, racurs.ua reports citing Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
"Germany will be able to deliver almost 200,000 artillery shells next year. I think this is a significant part of the planned million," said Carsten Breuer.
Germany has become one of the countries that help Ukraine. Berlin provided Kyiv with military, political and financial support. The Ukrainian Defense Forces received several types of artillery systems, Leopard II, Leopard I tanks, IRIS-T and Patriot SAM systems, ammunition, vehicles, drones and other types of weapons and supplies.
It will be recalled that in September, seven EU countries ordered artillery shells for Ukraine according to the scheme, which was agreed upon in the spring of 2023. These countries signed agreements with the European Defense Agency for the supply of 155 mm shells for self-propelled artillery installations - French CAESAR, Polish Krab, German PzH2000 and Slovak Zuzana C/2000.
In December, Germany's largest arms concern received an order to supply Ukraine with 155-millimeter artillery shells worth about 142 million euros.
Defense Express reported why artillery shells Germany gave Ukraine in the new €1.3 Billion aid package are more important than IRIS-T systems.
