Germany: Ukraine can strike Russian territory for self-defence

The German government’s position is that international law allows Ukraine to launch strikes on Russian territory in self-defence, Spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said during a briefing on May 31.

"I provided not an assessment of the [Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow] itself, but an assessment from the standpoint of international law. International law considers such strikes legitimate," he said, DW reports.

However, he added that official Berlin opposes the use of German weapons for such attacks.
