Germany, US to supply Ukraine with multiple rocket launchers
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that he agreed on the supply of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Ukraine with US President Joe Biden and fully shares the position of the head of the White House on the arms supplies to Kyiv.
“I said from the very beginning: we will not go alone and will closely coordinate our actions with our allies. The situation is dynamic,” TASS quotes Scholz as saying.
He also said that the US president has previously described his position in an interview with The New York Times, to which he can fully subscribe.
“Other partners in the Group of Seven also think so,” the German Chancellor said. “We support Ukraine with everything necessary for self-defence. At the same time, we must prevent an escalation leading to war between Russia and NATO,” Scholz noted.
The chancellor recalled that Germany has been supplying Ukraine with heavy weapons for months, for example, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, and Panzerhaubitze 2000 multiple launch rocket systems.
“As a chancellor, I broke a long tradition that excluded such supplies,” he concluded.
