Germany vows to shield Europe from Russia’s 1.5 million-strong army
Germany is determined to ensure the security of European countries against Russia, not alongside it, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said in an interview.
"We will have security for Europe, unfortunately, against Russia and not with Russia," Caliber.Az quotes Wadephul as saying per foreign media.
Wadephul said that this is unfortunately necessary because the whole of Europe is threatened by Russia, which is building up a new war machine and war economy, aiming for an army of 1.5 million troops.
Wadephul said that this is not only for the purpose of preserving what has already been achieved on the battlefield in Ukraine.
“We have to take into account that they may have other further goals to the west, and that is, of course, in our consideration that we have to step up, that we have to have the ability to deter Russia, to defend NATO territory if needed,” he noted
