Grandson of Hamas founder Al-Rantisi killed in Gaza PHOTO
The grandson of one of the founders and ideologues of Hamas, Abdel Aziz Al-Rantisi, was killed in Gaza City on September 16.
According to MİG News, the militant’s father, Muhammad Rantisi, who is himself a member of Hamas, stated that his eldest son died because he “went on the attack and did not retreat.”
The grandfather — the organisation’s ideologue, Abdel Aziz Al-Rantisi — was born in Yibna, near Jaffa. In 1948, his family fled to Gaza. In 1965, he finished high school and enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University in Egypt. In 1972, he graduated, returned to Gaza for two years, and then earned a master’s degree in paediatrics.
Rantisi studied in Egypt for nine years and obtained a degree in paediatrics. During his studies, he was influenced by the philosophy of the Muslim Brotherhood.
In 1976, he returned to Gaza and became a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. In 1987, he became one of the founders of the movement that later became known as Hamas. He was later deported to Lebanon, spent several years in prison, and subsequently returned to the Palestinian Authority.
Rantisi was appointed leader of Hamas in Gaza after the assassination of Sheikh Yassin. In 2004, Rantisi was killed in an IDF operation.
