Great interest in International Flower Festival in Colombia

The "International Flower Festival", which is celebrated with enthusiasm every year in Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia, attracted great attention this year.

The International Flower Festival, which has been celebrated without restrictions since the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic in Colombia, ended with the participation of thousands of local and foreign people.

Within the scope of the event, which was organized on the biggest street in the city, flower producers presented their flowers, which they prepared meticulously in various patterns and shapes, to the visitors.

Carrying flower boxes with an average weight of between 60 and 100 kilograms on their backs, the producers exhibited the works they prepared, accompanied by intense applause and cheers from the audience, with a parade.

Medellin Mayor Daniel Quintero Calle, pointing out the importance of the festival, said, "This festival is a cultural heritage not only for Antioquia and Medellin but for all humanity and the world. Producers once walked for kilometres to market their products, but now it has turned into a traditional festival. People, It celebrates with great enthusiasm every year." used the phrase.

The owners of the flower boxes that received the most votes in 7 categories were awarded by the Medellin Municipality at the festival, which was held for the 65th time this year in Colombia, with the participation of 520 flower producers.

The festival began in 1957 when 23 flower sellers from the village of Santa Elena, east of Medellin, made their way through the city with boxes of flowers on their backs.

Medellin Flower Festival, which was first celebrated in May, was started to be organized in August 1968 to commemorate the Battle of Boyaca, one of the important turning points in the independence adventure of Colombia and South American countries.
