Greece, Germany adopt declaration on establishing strategic partnership
Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul have adopted a declaration establishing a strategic partnership between the two countries, the Greek Foreign Ministry has announced following talks in Athens.
The document states, among other things, that Greece and Germany support ongoing efforts to strengthen multilateral solutions by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the United Nations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Referring to fundamental geopolitical changes driven by developments in Ukraine and instability in the Middle East, it says “Greece and Germany commit to taking shared responsibility and intensifying their efforts to promote peace and security in Europe and beyond.”
Gerapetritis stressed that freedom of navigation is a universal obligation, essential not only to global trade but also to broader peace and prosperity.
He noted that Greece had already raised the issue during its May presidency of the United Nations Security Council, where it currently serves as an elected member.
“It is important to prevent the evolving crisis from escalating uncontrollably, affecting the global economy, the international food supply chain and citizens’ daily lives,” he added.
