Greece invites India to defence alliance against Türkiye
Greece has officially invited India to join a trilateral defence alliance with Cyprus and Israel.
The alliance, established in December last year in response to security threats in the Eastern Mediterranean, focuses on maritime defence, energy resource intelligence, and joint military exercises, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Members are already sharing intelligence and coordinating strategic actions in the region.
Bringing India into the “Mediterranean Quad” would strengthen the alliance into a powerful military bloc to counter Türkiye’s expanding cooperation with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, often dubbed an “Islamic NATO.”
The formation of the alliance accelerated amid worsening relations between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel with Türkiye, triggered by the discovery of major gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean.
For India, joining this bloc offers a unique chance to extend its strategic influence into the Mediterranean while countering Pakistan’s growing military-diplomatic reach, especially as Islamabad’s nuclear deterrent increasingly aligns with Türkiye’s conventional and expeditionary forces.
