Greek F-16s scrambled over Cyprus following suspicious object
Greek F-16 fighter jets were deployed over Cyprus after a suspicious object appeared in the airspace near Lebanon, marking the third such security alert on the island this week.
Larnaca International Airport temporarily suspended operations due to the potential threat. Cyprus government spokesman Constantinos Letimbotis confirmed that security services had taken all necessary measures to investigate and respond to the situation, Caliber.Az reports via Greek media.
An alert was also issued at the US Embassy in Nicosia, prompting staff to evacuate to the basements. By 10 a.m. local time, employees had returned to their duties.
Cypriot authorities plan to convene an emergency meeting of the National Security Council later today, March 4, to assess the situation and coordinate further response measures.
