Guadeloupe Liberation Movement head urges action against French oppression at Baku congress

17 July 2024 10:40

During an international congress held in Baku, Jean-Jacob Bissep, the secretary general of the People's Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe, passionately addressed Azerbaijan's support for Kanak independence and voiced strong opposition to French neo-colonial practices.

Bissep highlighted Azerbaijan's commitment to justice and democracy, asserting their intention to mobilize global efforts against France's oppressive policies towards smaller nations, Caliber.Az reports.

"Azerbaijan's international stance is rooted in principles of fairness. We are determined to rally international support to confront French neo-colonialism and free oppressed peoples," emphasized Bissep. He underscored the congress as a significant platform for uniting against French exploitation, aiming to compel Paris to relinquish control over nations and peoples under its influence.

"The world must unite to compel Paris to cease its exploitation of nations and peoples it oppresses," Bissep declared, calling the congress a powerful message to both France and the global community.

Reflecting on the historical context, Bissep noted the congress's importance, reminiscent of past efforts in Guadeloupe forty years ago, while emphasizing its potential to catalyze new strategies against contemporary forms of French colonialism.

"We will engage intensely over the next two days, exchanging crucial insights and forging an international coalition to combat French colonial policies," Bissep affirmed, envisioning the congress as a landmark event in the ongoing struggle for justice and self-determination.

This congress, organized by the People's Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe and supported by the Baku Initiative Group, gathers leaders from over fifteen political parties and movements advocating for the independence of regions historically impacted by French colonialism, including Corsica, Melanesia, Polynesia, the Caribbean, and the Antilles.
