Azerbaijan’s new envoy, CICA chief talk over progress ahead of Baku summit

18 September 2026 14:25

Azerbaijan’s new ambassador to Kazakhstan, Alimirzamin Askerov, has met Kairat Sarybay, secretary general of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), ahead of the organisation’s upcoming summit in Baku.

Sarybay said on X that he welcomed Askerov to the CICA Secretariat’s headquarters.

The two discussed CICA’s achievements under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship ahead of the summit in Baku.

Sarybay also highlighted the support of the Azerbaijani embassy in Kazakhstan for the CICA Secretariat’s engagement with the diplomatic corps in Astana.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is a multinational forum established to promote dialogue, cooperation, peace, security and stability across Asia.

The initiative was proposed by Kazakhstan in 1992 and formally established through its founding documents in 1999 and 2002. CICA currently has 28 member states, representing nearly 90% of Asia’s territory and population.

The Seventh CICA Summit will be held in Baku on 15 October 2026, during Azerbaijan’s 2024–2026 chairmanship. It will bring together heads of state and government to discuss confidence-building, regional security, sustainable development and cooperation on common challenges.

A key issue is also CICA’s ongoing transformation into a full-fledged international organisation, including work on a new charter.
