Baku, IAEA explore new avenues for nuclear safety cooperation PHOTO

Azerbaijan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) discussed ways to expand cooperation during the agency’s 70th General Conference in Vienna, Austria.

More than 3,000 representatives from 181 IAEA member states attended the session, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has told Caliber.Az.

Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Yusif Nabiyev and included representatives of relevant structures within the ministry.

Addressing the conference, Nabiyev highlighted opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IAEA, including through technical missions focused on nuclear safety during major mass events.

He also outlined Azerbaijan’s efforts to develop its legal, regulatory and technical infrastructure and expand the application of nuclear and isotope technologies in healthcare, agriculture and environmental protection.

During the conference, the Azerbaijani delegation also held bilateral meetings with representatives of the IAEA and other countries to discuss areas of mutual interest.
