Gulf states must be part of any future Iran deal, GCC chief says

25 June 2026 16:41

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said that any future agreements with Iran must take into account the security requirements of Gulf Arab states.

Following a joint ministerial meeting between the six-member bloc and the United States in Bahrain, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the meeting underscored the need for future arrangements involving Iran to safeguard the interests, security and stability of GCC member states, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

"Any future agreements or mechanisms must include the requirements of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, protecting their interests and guaranteeing their security and stability," Albudaiwi said in a statement issued by the GCC Secretariat.

He added that such arrangements should be based on international law, respect for sovereignty, good-neighbourly relations and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
